I'm finding myself spending a lot time on Boombox at the moment. It's a megamix download site of very good quality in the main - I had already come across, for instance, Strepsil's chilled out mixes elsewhere.
It works as a communal blog, so there's new stuff coming thru all the time, with something to suit every taste - everything from heavy metal to hard core garage.
There's also an interesting retro usage of 'tape' in language and imagery, which is rather nice. And which got me thinking. If you assume that most people on the site aren't all geeks of a certain age, it does show how things from the old pre-digital world still retain a lot of potency in terms of head space and meaning. Possibly even for people who weren't there at the time.
For all the reality of the virtual, I guess it just remains true (and probably will do for some while) that tangibility can offer a power and richness of associations that 0s and 1s just can't possess (iPod vs iTunes - where's the emotional attachment?).
Any other good examples of analogue language and imagery becoming the norm in the digital space as well. Sure I could think of some but thought I would open it up ;-)
Oh, and if we're thinking mixes, Ian put has just put together some nice rainy Sunday afternoon delights that are worth checking out.
