Politically, I'm probably diametrically opposed to all the Republican party (seems to) stand for. But I did kind of get the impression that McCain was its acceptable face. Until that is, he got into bed with the right wing, fundamentalist neo-cons. Then everything went out the window. So much so, that even he seemed sometimes embarrassed and uncomfortable about what was going on around him.
That said, he took the loss well, and seemed to regain some (self) respect in the process (and maybe remember what he really believed in)...
